Last month, our team attended the Gentle Teaching International Conference in Aalborg, Denmark (September 16–18). The event brought together practitioners and leaders from around the world to share their experiences and practices.
Gentle Teaching is practiced in many countries throughout the world including the United States, Canada, India, South America, Asia and Europe. This year marked the 24th Annual Gentle Teaching International (GTI) Conference in Aalborg, Denmark. Each year, the GTI conference brings together professionals and organizations worldwide, that work together to develop, promote and strengthen the values of Gentle Teaching.
The Gentle Teaching International Conference 2025 was hosted by Sødisbakke, one of Denmark’s leading special services for adults with physical and mental disabilities. Like Eiros Group, they have attended numerous GTI Conferences over the years, and did a fantastic job coordination and hosting this year's event in Aalborg, Denmark.
The 3 day conference included numerous workshops and key note speakers showcasing the various positive impacts of Gentle Teaching.
Highlights included Kristinn Már Torfason’s presentation on introducing Gentle Teaching into services in Iceland and the cultural change it has supported over three decades. Bo Hejlskov discussed the ethics behind approaches to challenging behavior, and Ingelis Arnsbjerg connected Polyvagal Theory to Gentle Teaching, showing the role of safety and self regulation in human connection.
We also learned from Nathan Murdoch’s session on harm reduction as an approach rooted in relationship and respect, from Melanie Loroff and Heather Foster’s focus on leadership during organizational change, and from Tim Jones’ overview of Canada’s Certified Gentle Teaching Mentor network.
I was honored to present at the conference as well. My workshop used storytelling, humor, and references from the TV show Friends to explore how Gentle Teaching connects with Charting the LifeCourse (CtLC). I shared practical ways the two approaches can work together to build relationships grounded in safety, trust, and love.
The Aalborg conference was an inspiring experience, and we are looking forward to hosting the Gentle Teaching International Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey, September 29–October 1,
2026.
Ever since the beginning of Eiros Group over 5 years ago, leading and living in a Culture of Gentleness has been integral to the core philosophy of Eiros Group.
Gentle Teaching is more than just a methodology to work with people who experience disabilities, it is a philosophy, it is resource, and it is a way of life.
For the past 24 years, the GTI conference has been held at difference destinations throughout the world, including Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, Portugal, Puerto Rico and next year, Eiros Group is honored to the organization who will host Gentle Teaching International 2026!

As someone who loves colder weather, I am also someone who loves a good hearty, satisfying and easy recipe. On a particularly chilly afternoon, I recently made one of my favorites, Creamy Parmesan Italian Sausage Soup. It was, as always, the perfect recipe to warm my belly!
Creamy Parmesan Italian Sausage Soup
Ingredients:
1-pound Italian sausage, casing removed
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 cups chicken broth
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cups baby spinach
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Note:
For a thicker soup, add a tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with a tablespoon of water.

We’re excited to introduce two very special pups—Daulton and Cooper, our beloved mini Goldendoodles!
Daulton recently achieved a big milestone by passing his AKC Canine Good Citizen test—way to go, Daulton! His younger “brother,” Cooper, is currently in training and will take his test in
April when he turns one year old.
But their accomplishments go far beyond obedience and good behavior. Daulton and Cooper are preparing for a meaningful mission: they’ll be volunteering with a local hospice center, offering comfort, joy, and wagging tails to those in need. This service is especially close to my heart, as it honors the memory of my beloved Aunt Ethel, who recently passed.
Each month, we receive submissions from Eiros Group Employees, the people we support, and their families, about a variety of topics including services, insights, vacation or holiday experiences, family memories or traditions, favorite recipes and stories about life with disability. If you would like to submit an article, photos or both for consideration in an upcoming edition, please send to: maryb@eiros-group.com We are grateful for all of the contributions to our newsletter!
Happy Birthday to Vicki L. and Marita P.!
We also want to wish Happy Eiros Group Anniversaries to Tori and Ryan B., Heidi K., Kristen M., Kelsey M., Katelyn S.!!

The holiday season brings many traditions and celebrations Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, and more. While this time of year can be filled with joy and connection, it can also bring stress, loneliness, or pressure for some people. Gentle Teaching offers us simple ways to respond with kindness and presence.
At its core, Gentle Teaching is about helping others feel safe, valued, and connected. During the holidays, that can mean slowing down, offering reassurance, and creating space for people to be themselves.
Here are some ways we can support people who may be feeling stressed this season:
No matter which holiday is being celebrated, these Gentle Teaching practices remind us that connection is the most meaningful tradition. By offering presence and kindness, we can help make this season a time where everyone feels included and supported.
The NJ Self-Direction Conference brings together individuals, families, professionals and advocates to explore the power of self-direction, providing resources, workshops, expert-led discussions, networking and more to help navigate the future of person-centered care.

As the seasons begin to shift from one to the next, the chance for severe weather is always a possibility. October ushers in the beginning of the rainy season (N'or Easters), along with drops in temperature, and sometimes, even early snow storms. The New “Register Ready – New Jersey’s Special Needs Registry for Disasters” allows New Jersey residents with disabilities or access and functional needs and their families, friends, caregivers and associates an opportunity to provide information to emergency response agencies so emergency responders can better plan to serve them in a disaster or other emergency.
Remember, being prepared is the most important thing to do. Register with your county's Office of Emergency Management, regularly run down the lists of important contacts, and know what to do. The first line of defense in any disaster is being prepared.
If you have had a change in email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers or any other information, it is ESSENTIAL that you contact us to make sure it is all up to date. This information also needs to be up to date with Support Coordinators, and on your ISP, if applicable. If you need help, or have had a recent change, please contact your Supports Broker right away!
