Supports Brokerage vs. Direct Support: Helping People Find Staff
At Eiros Group, we offer two distinct services when assisting people to find staff: Supports Brokerage and Direct Support (Community-Based Supports/Individual Supports). While both services aim to provide personalized assistance, they differ in scope, roles, and responsibilities.
Here's a breakdown of each service to help you understand their differences.
Supports Brokerage
Supports Brokerage focuses on empowering people and their families to manage their own staff, known as Self-Directed Employees (SDEs).
Role of the Supports Broker:
- Assists with finding SDEs.
- Trains the person or family on how to work with and manage their SDEs.
- Provides ongoing support without taking over employer responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help create a job description tailored to the person’s needs and preferences. This includes activities like exercise, games, and community involvement.
- Post job ads on various platforms.
- Screen candidates’ resumes, conduct phone screenings, and coordinate meetings for the person or family to finalize the hiring decision.
Limitations:
- The fiscal intermediary (FI), such as Public Partnerships (PPL) or Easter Seals, handles hiring compliance including background checks and drug screening.
- Supports Brokers cannot directly manage scheduling, timesheets, or compliance notes on behalf of the Employer of Record (EOR).
Payment Structure:
- Services are billed based on the time spent that the Supports Broker is working with the person (measured in units of 15 minutes).
- Example: 100 hours of service (400 units).
Direct Support
Direct Support services, Community-Based Supports/Individual Supports, involve Eiros Group directly managing the staff and providing hands on assistance through Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).
Role of the Staffing Specialist and Direct Support Team:
- Acts as a liaison in hiring DSPs, similar to the Supports Broker’s interview process.
- Ensures DSPs are trained and prepared to assist the person.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create job descriptions for DSPs with guidance from the person and family.
- Facilitate hiring by posting job ads and screening candidates.
- Oversee DSP training, including courses through the College of Direct Support, and ensure compliance with background checks, drug screening, and other requirements.
- Manage DSP scheduling, payroll, and compliance.
Payment Structure:
- Services are billed based on direct interaction time (15 minute increments/units).
- Rates vary by program type:
- Community Care Program (CCP):
- Supports Program:
